Be the Church 2: Read the Word

When Martha complained to Jesus about her sister Mary sitting at His feet while Martha was busy serving, Jesus told her that Martha had made the right choice. Although it often seems otherwise, it is worth it to set aside time to just listen to the Lord by reading His Word. So try this: assign yourself a doable Bible reading challenge, and spend regularly scheduled time, not in study, but just reading and praying.

The Church is a spiritual community. It is not just something you attend, use, support or interact with, but something you become. Be the church by worshipping the Lord and serving humanity.

Here are the readings from “Read the Word”:

Luke 10:38-42

Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving.

And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.”

But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”

Secrets of Heaven 9382:2

Everyone receives enlightenment and instruction from the Word according to their affection for truth and degree of desire for it, and according to their ability to receive it. …Those who are in that way enlightened understand the Word according to its inner truths, and so they establish guidelines for themselves from the Word, to which they then relate the literal sense. …Those are enlightened who are governed by heavenly loves; for heavenly loves receive heaven’s truths and soak them up like sponges, and are also joined to them of their own accord in the manner of soul and body.
